True Riches

Honey For The Heart - 19

The sky wore its softest blue. Bumble and Piggy sat under their favourite fig tree, sharing a lunch of fresh figs, warm acorns, and honeyed walnuts.

Piggy licked his paw thoughtfully.
“Bumble… do you ever wonder how it must feel to be rich?”

Bumble paused mid-bite.
“Well, I’ve never needed much… just jars of honey, stars above me, soft moss to sleep on… and you. But if you ask me, I already feel rich!”

Piggy’s ears perked.
“Even without a grand treehouse or a water-lily pond?”

Bumble chuckled, wiping honey from his nose.
“Piggy, I’ve met squirrels who hoard acorns but sleep with one eye open, afraid someone might take them. And magpies with nests full of shiny things…but no one to share them with.”

He looked at Piggy with a soft smile.
“Some animals grow greedy for things they don’t even need… extra dens, rare feathers, the fanciest pinecones, thinking they’ll feel more enough. But they forget… the heart doesn’t get full that way.”

He placed a gentle paw on his chest.
“To me, true riches are a happy roar, roaming free, and friends to roll in mud with. And let’s not forget- waking up to a new sun, with your paws sturdy, your breath steady, and your teeth strong? That might just be the greatest treasure of all.”

His voice grew warm, like toasted pine.
“True riches don’t glitter, Piggy. They glow. In shared meals, honest hugs, stories that stay, the way someone catches your tears before they fall… and in the gift of good health that lets us walk, laugh, and love till the very end.”

Piggy looked down at the morning’s clover he had picked and offered it to Bumble.
“Then take this,” he said shyly. “It’s not much. But it’s all of today’s luck.”

Bumble accepted it like it was the rarest gem.
“And you’ve just made me the richest bear in all of Whispering Woods.”

They sat a little closer…honey between them, love around them.

Because in the end, wealth isn’t counted in what we own…but in how well we live, who we hold close, and the warmth we leave behind.
